When it rains, it pours. The Ning doth overflow today, and the good stuff is flying off the front page into the quagmire of bad search functions faster than you can keep up with it. Here's an idiots guide to how to do it. I'm using YoYo Underby as an example since his story is recent and easy to salvage.
1. Go to the New Babbage Wiki and create an account.
http://cityofnewbabbage.com/records/
2. Create your character's biography entry. In your browser bar, enter a URL like this one:
http://cityofnewbabbage.com/records/index.php?title=YoYo_Underby
3. Your browser should direct you to a placeholder page. Click on the text link that invites you to
edit this page.
4. Now you are in the
edit tab. This is where you put your text. You can add in photos by pasting the URL of your image on a line of its own, it will appear as the image in the
article tab.
6. After you've filled in your bio, start a new section on your page to index blog and forum entries from the Ning that document your story. You can look at the
edit tab on the page I am using as an example for a cheat sheet, or paste this format:
==Noteworthy Events==
*Description of event
**links, if available [URL (space) name_of_article] (clicking the URL link button will paste in the square brackets, add a space for a text title for the link)
multiple asterisks will create indented formatting.
7. At the bottom of your entry, paste in this line:
[[Category:Biographies]]
This will get you listed on the index page. Use the double square brackets around words and names you think are worthy of cross referencing, and links will be created to existing pages or placeholders.
Since my build motivation has gone to crap lately, i'll be wrangling the entries for the next little while to give the project a healthy shove in the right direction. I expect you to edit over whatever i might write about you and your stuff.
I remain a luddite. If i can do this, anyone can.
