New Babbage

A Steampunk Community

Given the minimum of destruction wreaked by the first event, we are pleased to announce the second Aether Salon will take place on Sunday, November 9 16, at 2pm slt.

Please note the scheduling change, from November 9 to November 16, due to a scheduling conflict.

All are welcome to join us at the Aether Salon in Babbage Palisade (located across the street from Her Dark Materials, & conveniently near the train station) for tea and a spirited discussion of:

Weapons!
with dangerous perilous stunning craft to follow.

We are thrilled to be able to announce at this time that our guest speaker will be Miss Ordinal Malaprop.

Known for her fine production methods, exceptional scripts, attention to detail, and ability to keep danger at bay with a variety of weapons and tools, Miss Malaprop will be well armed address the current state of weaponry in our times. Or, really, anything she wants to talk about at all. We've seen her armory and plan to be most attentive and polite.

Please bring your manners, keep your wits about you, and check your own fine examples of might and mayhem at the door. Sanus, wear a shirt.

Time allowing, we will attempt to revisit the ongoing discussion 'What's wrong wiff Bob?' However, should this need to be put off for another month, I doubt that anyone will mind terribly.

Looking forward to seeing you there (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Babbage%20Palisade/97/59/105/?title=Aet...) at 2pm slt

You can.

You can just expect us to not behave.
Having just signed for the delivery of extra window panes, as well as the packing boxes for the secret Aether Salon Weapons! Craft, I am happy to say that we are finally well barricaded ready for Sunday's Salon! Please make ready to participate in a discussion with this month's speaker and noted weapons expert, Miss Ordinal Malaprop.

Again (although this is likely not the last time you will hear this), a heartfelt request to all and sundry to check your weapons (included in this category: AOs, HUDs, other heavily scripted items, primskirts more than 3m wide, guns, blades, shooters, clicky-clacky shoes, a certain and very particular tesla array, and large blue drop-down menus) at the door.

Chairs will be provided, thanks entirely to the amazing Canolli Capalini at Capalini Fine Furnishings in Babbage Canals. If you do not yet have one of these amazing items, please to see me at the entrance of the salon.

Beverages and sundry items to be provided by the ladies' auxiliary of Aether Salon, including the veritable Miss Breezy Carver. There will of course be lots of tea. Do not shoot the teapot, as it is no mod/copy/trans.

There is a new 'join group' sign at the gate - please take the time to join the Aether Salon of Babbage group, should you have a space available.

Off to purchase more medicinals air out the speakers' stage.

Many Thanks in advance!

Viv & Sera

So, after the Salon you are inspired to learn more about Victorian weaponry. What can you do? Well. . . . . .
In the R.F.Burton Library at the top of the stairs is a little table with books on various weapons. All are 19th century (or earlier) titles and you really really really can read the books online. You can even get a copy of the book to take with you and read at your leisure.

Thank you to Miss J. Dagger for suggesting the titles.

This is an excellent idea indeed - and I love to see the Library and the Salon working together. Books, we love 'em.

If you haven't seen the bookshelf upstairs, check it out - Sera did a great job on this!

The big congratulations go to the librarian for pulling in the volumes (and making them work)

"AOs, HUDs, other heavily scripted items, primskirts more than 3m wide, guns, blades, shooters, clicky-clacky shoes, a certain and very particular tesla array..."

Thank you Red - although I would say that each of the Salons will have a different character, but they will all be fascinating. I encourage you to continue attending them.
