It has been an exciting and challenging time running a city-state for the past 2 years. I see entirely why George Washington set the 2 year term limit in motion within the United States. After two years you feel exhausted in a way that's practically impossible to describe. Even the will to log in seems to not be there for me. I want new challenges, I want to move on. Also I think New Babbage deserves better than my absence. It's time for a new mayor. I hereby invoke a 2 year precedent.

Sadly, it's not as easy as hosting an election. New Babbage is an asset. It is profitable. And it is indeed worth something. It would also be a thoughtless act to simply sell to the highest bidder. Everyone here deserves more than that. I want to sell to someone who has vision, someone who will not only maintain what we have, but strive to grow and evolve it further. We have a unique situation.

Currently, a brand new (and vacant as a desert) sim costs someone $1000 USD to purchase and $295 USD per month to keep. New Babbage is 6 sims of thriving community and active renters, and to use an analogy, an appartment full of renters is worth more than an empty building. I am willing to sell New Babbage to someone for $6,000.00 USD, However there are some strings attached. I want the people of New Babbage to approve you.

If you are interested in buying New Babbage there is nothing I can do to "make" you continue New Babbage. Legally, you could wipe the sims, tell everyone to leave, and build a gorean wonderland (no offense to any who enjoy Gor). But, by having the land owners of New Babbage approve you, I think there's a good chance you'll take New Babbage on a path to greatness.

If you fancy yourself a mayor. If you think you can lead New Babbage, I invite you to post on a second thread I have started "New Babbage Election". Please go there and make your case to the people of New Babbage. Tell them what you will do as Mayor of New Babbage. PLEASE remember, if you win the election, you will have to pay me $6,000.00 USD for New Babbage so only post if you are serious please.

This thread is for any reaction, but only post on the "New Babbage Election" thread if you want to be the mayor. I ask the forum mods to keep this enforced. I think we can have an election before Valentine's Day. After we have a New Mayor, I'd like to share with everyone what I plan to be doing with my time, I think you will all approve.

IF YOU WANT TO RUN: If you are elected, and I receive payment in full. I will provide a "change of power" peroid where I'll make sure you have all the items, contacts, and permissions so that you can run New Babbage.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO VOTE: You must be a New Babbage landholder with a positive number of days remaining in the rental board by January 25th. The size of your parcel or number of parcels you own does not matter. You simply must own a parcel of land by Jan. 25th. If I am not available you may do land deals through Charlene Trudeau, as she is authorized by me to sell land in New Babbage on my behalf.

Over the years, Caledon has grown into "Victorian Steampunk" themed sims...but it was never like, what it has become now. The very "FIRST" Caledon sim, In my opinion, wasn't Steampunk themed, it was "Victorian" themed. I base my opinion with regards to making comparisons between seeing and experiencing the very first Caledon/New Babbage Sims. New Babbage was a blatantly more Steampunk themed than Caledon's very first ever sim. As for the other things you said, I agree. Caledon is a heck of a lot bigger than New Babbage...New Babbage is just a little blip on the SL map compared to Caledon, so of course it would get more coverage with regards to polls, and of course more people would hear about Caledon over New Babbage because again, of the coverage Caledon gets due to it's popularity in size. I would never argue that! New Babbage to me, is like "Indy" Underground Steampunk where as Caledon is "Mainstream Top 20 pop" Steampunk. Anyhow...we are going off track here, I apologize, let's stick to the subject at hand, which is the selling of New Babbage...Kandace, you are making some very valid and key points about the transaction and business dealings to do with New Babbage and Linden Labs, thank you for doing that btw.

aye, but a group can self monitor while one can just flip out and do what they like. Power is never easy i suppose.

its either the two choices or a nonprofit co-op i guess, which is kind of how i see it should be done (extra cash fed back into new sims and to cover down times). the only way to be truely fair is to let the ruling be democratic by the land owners and those who rent the smaller slips but that's just a nightmare.

How does a group 'self monitor'? If 6 people pitch in $1000 each, you can't just kick one out, you'd have to essentially buy them out, assuming they're willing to sell. That or the other 5 would have to force them to sell out. Messy business.

How ever As Doctor O said .. lets try not to nail it to YOU and he ..she ..
This is about a dynamic sale of a most special Industy theme group of Sims .

this is a flowing informitive thread .. Its 8:3o am Jan 6..
this is not going to be settled by noon or any ASAP ..moment ..
meaning this is situation that is going to take a wee bit of time to iron out details .
and the calmer folks stay the better the situations to indeed the possible transactions will flow .

Many succesful RP sim have silent partners that are bound under contracts !
Shaun has grown these sims thru and with others money in investing . That is capitalism and a free trade society . I am not about to pro or con anything this in my humble opinion is not the place or time ..

Bottom Line he wants Out ..
It is his right ..
He was kind enough to state a slight passage as to why ..
At no point did he put the residence or sims down .

This is a long term investment
This is not an investment to make instant money !1
This is an investment of passion vs investment vs risk to keep six concept sims alive .

Who ever the soul investor is vs ( group buy ie a board oh second life hedge fund > grins<)
.. (( that could be 4 or 3 people by the way investing 1500 to 2000 us dollars a piece have a great deal to work out and I think the fact that if there were such 6 or 4 or 3 people before they are blown out of water understand something ))

This is a risk .. Real lives can change in any one of anyone life in a moment !!
The front person has a great deal to handle
But would be accountable to the investors who in turn are accountable to the parcel investors !
This is business . There is no Place to Hide !!!

Anyone who comes into any new Business and thinks they can flip or turn a profit out of the box in today's times is out of their mind ..
Bottom line anyone who is about to invest must come in knowing this is indeed a long term investment !

I believe that this is clever way to change hands and I applaud the out of the box method at this time because it is going to take out of the box ways of thinking and doing and here is the biggie WORKING TOGETHER TO GET HER DONE !!!!

I think it is vitally important to draw the distinction between RL and SL, here. The owner of the New Babbage sims, whether it be a person or a corporation (I strongly recommend against any sort of legal partnership), would have no need to play a part in world. As a business venture, it is important to treat it as a financial entity. While the "sentimentality" should definitely drive the corp, it must be considered as a business to survive. Also, any corporation crossing an ocean should be considered very carefully.

Since LL is a California based company, then any corporation would be liable for their state laws, plus any impact from ToS.

Just my 2p on this, from here...I can't see how any cooperative effort can NOT go the route of a defined corporation, to avoid all of the 'pissing match' issues.

Finally, thanks to the mods for keeping an eye on this and helping us keep focused. There are a lot of strong opinions out there, and we need to make sure that we generate more light than heat.

Well, sort of. The agreement between the new corp (we'll call it NBCorp) and LL would be subject to the ToS and California law. The division of profits, payment of taxes, legal responsibility, and control of the sim would be dependant upon NBCorp. They would be contracted to LL, but existing wholly separate.
In this case, it would be just as if you and I had an agreement. I would be responsible for our agreement, but not for your actions, and vice versa.
