It is a considerable honor for me to be appointed Captain by Mr. Cleanslate, which I hereby accept with humility and gratitude! I am certain we will all defend New Babbage to the best of our ability, and from this point forward our fair city will be safer and more secure.

The Ladies of Babbage will fall in and form a fighting unit the like of whic has never been seen before. I envisage a marine commando unit, fighting on land or sea. A force worthy of an island state, and a dab hand at crochet.

I would gladly take a commission, but I would require that I, along with the rest of the crew of the Seraph receive letters of Marque. This had been talked about during the last administration, but those talks were never finished.

I would also like to ask if there will be a flag provided so that members of the volunteer navy can identify themselves via colors. Yes, I am putting in my bid as a commander in the Ironclad fleet that I am sure will form in New Babbage.

Well given a active criminal, underwold beggar and gang man of great expectations such as meself as head of me family in 56 children can join up this service, it will be hard to keep the good and bad fellows apart

I must voice a concern. Along with Jed, I feel that we have too many 'mad scientists' and not enough 'hunchbacks' in our militia. I don't want to put a damper on anyone's enthusiasm to participate, but with so many captains and so few recruits, I fear it will be worse than a rabble. The stubborn fact is that we will have a very difficult time fielding more than five or six in the best of times.

Do we really need all these separate divisions? A navy, an air force, an infantry, a woman's auxiliary, and what ever those under my command may be.

I would like to propose the following: All captains be recognized as being co-captains. What I mean is that everyone serves in one unit and under one flag, and that unit's current leader is whichever captain happens to be present. If certain individuals wish to specialize in land, sea, or aerial combat, so be it. If we are blessed with more than one captain present, even better as military strategy can be discussed between the captains.

What say you? Is there a second for this proposal? Let us discuss the overall nature of our militia before we create an unwieldy force composed of multiple armies.
