Not sure if this will be a problem, but you might want to inquire about whether or not the computer you're looking for has a clean install of W7, instead of an upgrade from Vista. My ex got her laptop from BB and it had vista loaded on it. It was...

Is that a Type IX U boat in the background?? Who is building it? Oh yes, and Kiergarten Armory pistols and rifles work quite well against these zombies. ;)

Profile Information

What has brought you to New Babbage and SL Steampunk?
I was straddling the modern world and 16th century Japan when my good friends the Merrymans told me about New Babbage. Late 18th and 19th century warfare and life in general has long been another of my interests, and I've always enjoyed the Steampunk look, and New Babbage is really one of the most unique places in SL I've seen, so I felt like this was to be the perfect place to call home. Up till then, my Japanese being far too poor to hang out in 1500's Kyoto, I hadn't really clicked with anyplace in SL. But I feel quite at home in New Babbage. I've always been drawn to people and communities that were a little apart from the mainstream.
Could you provide a bit of background about yourself?
In RL I am a freelance Industrial Design model maker (somewhat retired from that line of work), working as a balance head technician for a company which manufactures balancing systems for production grinding. I have been a musician for nearly 30 years and have also worked professionally as such for most of that time. I sculpt and paint, and I also dabble in 3d modeling as well.

In SL, I am an inventor, mechanic, handy man and adventurer. I also am owner and operator of Kiergarten Mfg. & Textiles and Kiergarten Armory, located in the Kiergarten Plaza in Wheatstone Waterways, just up from Keelhaul Chandlery.

Another Pistol Built

Some of you are familiar with my Webley MkI, the non-firing version of which is for sale, as an accessory, in my store. The firing version is in the works, but I just keep on building in the mean time, and I have just completed a pleasing replica of an 1870's period Merwin, Hulbert and Co. 1st Model 44/40 Pocket Army Revolver.

There are 10 different original, sculpted prims and I will be adding an 11th to replace the 6 prim trigger guard, which will knock the total prim count down from 51 to 45… Continue

((OOC-Sort Of)) Join the Steampunk MSTies Group!!

Ceejay and I have started a group for those of us who are/were fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000. You can either search on Steampunk MSTies in-world and then join, or you can drop one of us a note (or ask here) and we can invite you.

It's not restricted to Babbage, but rather is open to fans from all the Vic sims. Use group IM to discuss the show and to coordinate group viewings at the SOL in-world, in true Steampunk style.

Several are already in, but there were several others involved in t… Continue

Kiergarten Mfg and Textiles Is Open For Business

With Wheatstone Waterways now online, I have officially put out my shingle. I have opened Kiergarten Mfg and Textiles, specializing in vehicles, clothing and furniture of a Victorian/Steampunk variety. Only a few items complete and ready for sale, but they're there and ready for purchase. Included is the working version of the CSS Hunley (which is also available at the Orabelle Steamforge Airship Hanger (much thanks to owner/operator Kandace Commons for graciously hosting my vendor there! Buy he… Continue

Bought Some Land, Getting Excited About Starting a Store

I got a small plot of land in the soon to be Babbage Canal expansion and I'm quite eager to get things under way. I've already finished my building. I don't have enough good for sale to take up the entire floor space, so I've' built it as two long, narrow stores with flats above. I'm thinking I'll rent the one out and use the other for myself. If, Heaven forbid, my goods just don't sell, then I may just rent out both. Hopefully that won't be an issue though.

Getting around prim limits has been… Continue

well my ship is in permanent dockage ATM so unless you slither up and sneak into my South Carolina waterways i think we're both safe! ...besides i took down my last cannon (it was too many prims!) but i still have a plank!....not much to be scared of there...

"And, you needn't worry about your lovely ship crossing paths with my little rust bucket of a boat (which, though successful, sank on its first mission in RL), unless you fire first, that is ;)"

i am interested in your cannon...it sounds amazing! how many prims will it end up? can i see it?
and i'd love to give you the tour....i've just been a wee bit busy with RL back to teaching a pesky spanish frigate in my waters!

thank you, dear neighbor! and please do drop by anytime! help yourself to rum or a book from my lending library .....better yet, wait till i'm in residence and i'll give you the 2 farthing tour!
i have been quite busy decorating...my fingers actually ache from moving furniture (omg, they DO RL! tired, tired, they are!)...and when you do visit...pray don't laugh at my near obsessive need to place things in twos...i have more pairs of things! i should offer a scavenger hunt to determine just how many! ...but i quite find quiet solace in the balance of bric-à-brac and such like...[grins] oh yes, i love my factory and can't wait to show it off to my neighbors and friends
...old and....new! [smiles warmly]
Cheers!

Thank you so much for the tips regarding sculpties. I have heard the name Sculpt Studio come up a few times, and indeed Miss Galicia has been on the edge of making that purchase on a number of occasions before being pulled off in another direction.

I'm not against the idea of spending money on a tool, if it works properly. But what I've seen so far regarding sculpties and Second Life has been that things don't necessarily work properly (or at least in an expected fashion).

Without having yet gone through the Blender tutorials, I'm already a fan. Once I installed the python script add-in I found I was able to load a sculptie texture map TGA file (saved from a full perm sculpty I had in-world) and manipulate it. From there I can export it as an object file that PhotoShop CS4 Extended can read and render and allow me to paint.

On a separate note there is no harm in joining the Mac User's group, regardless. There are no bouncers, proof of Apple product ownership is not required. ;-)

Hello Mr Kiergarten! I've noticed that you have a Marker on the walking tour; would you mind dropping a notecard into it describing your property? Also, the tour is having issues presently, but Aeolus and I will work out the bugs soon enough.
Thanks!
Oh, I did purchase one of your rifles, and I'm very pleased with the quality!

Mr. Kiergarten...i am so sorry i ran away from the museum last night precipitiously ((i try and make sure i log at around 10pm EST on "school" nights cause i do teach an 8am class))
..but such talk of combining ale, science & music were too much for me and i was in a near swoon!! only resting upon my divan with salts handy was the remedy! but all jesting aside, my goodness...i am amazed at what wonders you and dear Viv have wrought in that museum of marvels! just splendid!
