What has brought you to New Babbage and SL Steampunk?
I went offline for a week or so, and when I got back my chums (Holmes & Watson) had moved here! They wasted no time in showing me around, and I have to say I loved it! I've been writing in the cyber & biopunk genres for *counts* eleven years now - so it really was a very small step anyway - especially for one who loves C19 literature!

I am currently in the process of writing a (slashy) steampunk Sherlock Holmes story, which features ADA as a (very) minor character.
Could you provide a bit of background about yourself?
My model number is ADA-471, but Mr. Holmes and Dr. Watson usually call me ADA after Ada Lovelace, the great computer programmer. I was 'born' in the factory of Rossum's Universal Robotics, who created me to be a clockwork 'gyroscopic maid'. I was originally sold to a Mrs. Hudson, but Mr. Holmes and Dr. Watson employ me now.

I live at 221B, where I work as a maid. Mr. Holmes and Dr. Watson are both very nice gentlemen and wonderful employers, and they are kind enough to let me spend my free time with them, exploring the world. There is so much for me to learn! Sadly, I am not able to do this as much as I would like, as I am usually very busy (looking after a bachelor flat is hard work!).

I would very much like to make some friends in our new home, but I am quite shy. I will try harder to overcome this aspect of my programming. I hope to meet you soon!

ADA's diary, Page Two - Egyptian Curses

Today I had a harrowing experience. I was admiring the new bakery with Dr. Watson and Mr. Holmes, and Mr Dagger and the lovely Ms. Breezy Carver were there too. The strange case of the ship without a crew was mentioned, and there was some talk of curses. Such things do scare me, but I thought given my mechanical construction that they could not hurt me. I was wrong.

I went down to the docks, curious to see this ship, and also to satisfy my worry that something aboard could harm my employers. I… Continue

ADA's diary, page one.

I feel I am starting to get settled into New Babbage although I still find the place rather confusing. An essential part of a maid's duties is go to market and to fetch such items as her employers require, but I am afraid I still do not know my way around. I am scared that this may be a fault, but I am not sure if this is with my programming or my hardware...

I have seen other automata in New Babbage. For the most part they seem... happy. Adjusted. They do not appear to be missing the necessary… Continue

your reticence and loyalty speak well of you, my dear...nor was i trying to lure you away from your position..only to assure you that should things ever go south you have a place to go in our fair city. my factory is large and dusty but very warm and commodious
(and with plenty of rum!) hospitality and industry are the bywords of Llewellyn Industries.
Cheers!

Welcome to New Babbage! Not that I have much right to roll out a welcome mat, being a new visitor myself... but you've come to a wonderfully friendly place. I had the chance to see you at the ball for a brief moment, but didn't really get to introduce myself. I do hope we get the chance another time!

Greetings and welcome! I'm new in Babbage myself, and I've found the local population, as a rule, to be very friendly and intelligent!

Mind that you must take care because of the occasional evil villain, mad scientist, vampire, petty thief, etc.
