((Short answer...nobody knows ;) Long answer ... no there's nothing about it in the stories. Dorothy Sayers speculated that it was Hamish, but the justification for this rests on somewhat shaky ground IMO ;)...
The speculation is that his middle name was Hamish. In "The Man with the Twisted Lip", his wife Mary called him James, which in Scottish is Hamish. Other than that, there is noting to confirm what Watson's middle name was.
But where Holmes lost his passenger (Watson)?& :)
