*eyes glinting with thinly veiled amusement* Ohh no, Miss Book, don't you hide! You're a heroine now, after all. I'm sure you've weapons practice or something else better to do. *smile*

Miss Bookworm, don't laugh, but I think you could be played quite admirably by a young Meryl Streep. Or, if you prefer, Glenn Close. I think either could ably portray both sides of you--the shy, bookish side, and the side of you that is learning h...

Wait...Mr. Koskinen, you're distantly related to Lord Byron? *ponders* I can just imagine the Clockwinder's lyrical description.... "She walks in beauty, like the night Of smoggy climes and sooty skies; And all that's best of dark and bright Me...

Miss Book, remind me to teach you some self-defense tactics for those occasions when you're caught without a conventional weapon. Although bear in mind that the best defense is generally evasion; defensive tactics are merely a means to that end. ...

Judging by the angle of the wound, was the attacker right or left handed? Full frontal attack with no defensive wounds would seem to indicate that the victim knew her attacker, or that the attack was so sudden she had no chance to react even when...

Excellent, Miss Book! I would strongly urge you to have someone else, perhaps your personal physician or My Lady, take a closer look at your back though, just to be safe. It's a very hard place to get a good view of on oneself.

What has brought you to New Babbage and SL Steampunk?
A short while back, while making a transcontinental journey via her personal airship, my beloved current employer was lost at sea. When her family got word that she was missing, I immediately set out in search of her. Eventually I encountered a sea captain who told me he had witnessed an airship being chased down by airship pirates, and that the pilot had managed to eject and landed somewhere in the vicinity of New Babbage. The airship he described to me matched my beloved's employer's exactly, so I have come to this land in hopes of finding her again.
Could you provide a bit of background about yourself?
One might say that I am currently in the personal service of an heiress whose family has made its fortune in the aethernautical industry. I'm afraid I can't go into detail about that at present, as I have reason to believe she might be placed in even greater peril by my lack of discretion. However, having nearly exhausted my personal resources on this search, I would be open to finding some local employment, at least for a short time.

Captain's Personal Log--Shadowing the Shadow

[Note: These events take place approximately one week after the events in Penelope Strathearn's blog, "Showdown at the CocoaJava Cafe".]

"I believe we're going to require a bit of assistance with this. So, what do you think of Mr. Wexhome?" My Lady took another sip of her tea.

I considered my answer carefully. "It would certainly seem to fit in with his abilities and...possibly with his prior experience." The… Continue

Captain's Personal Log--Stealth in the Shadows

The dark hours, second hour past midnight. I slipped silently from the shadows of the Palisade wall, keeping to the narrow ribbon of darkness between the bridge from the tracks to the tower. I heard a distant clank behind me, and froze, turning my head to follow it to its source. A Smashington Guard, up on the higher ground. It was facing away from me. I pressed my body closer to a bridge support and waited until it clanked back in the direction from whence it had come.

I heard a babble in the… Continue

Captain's Personal Log--Shadows and Secrets

This new turn of events is quite alarming. With the Aethership Tower currently under enemy occupation, My Lady and I find ourselves cut off from our surest form of escape should the unthinkable happen. The danger gathers around us like a thick fog now; I can sense the malicious intent focused upon My Lady, but even now I cannot track down its source. My Talent has been blunted here--some strange effect of this dimension, I fear--and I can only hope that if I must encounter Forsythe face to face,… Continue

Captain's Personal Log--Musings in Blank Verse

((Drat it, Miss Ceejay, this is your fault! You got iambic pentameter stuck in my brain, and now I can't get it out of my system. But don't expect all of my blog entries to be in blank verse from now on! *rolling eyes*))

I stand at guard and watch My Lady sleep
While waiting for the slow-awakening dawn,
The silent herald of another day
Spent wondering if this shall be the one,
The fateful morn or evening when he comes.
Will I be vigilant enough to ward
My Lady from his foul attack… Continue

Captain's Personal Log--An Evening Out with My Lady

Lady Penelope managed to twist my arm into accompanying her out tonight. Our first stop was to see how His Lordship's work is progressing:

Afterwards, we took a leisurely flight down via a strange carpet I picked up in Baghdad, and came to a landing outside t… Continue

Sir,

My instructions remain the same, do not go upstairs unless you leave the door open so that no hint of impropriety sullies Miss Strathearn's reputation. My shop is a respectable one (ignore those odd noises at night). I do not wish any scandal attached to my shop or family. ((We've had quite enough in the past, thank you.))

Your cooperation in this matter is appreciated.

Cordially,
Lady Tomsen

Mr. Somerset,
Thank you so much for your kind words on my new portrait...but I'm confused by the provocative and a bit forward "'Course, we know better".... comment...because I don't believe we have ever met. What a thing to say to a Lady who is not really known to you!
[blinks] Cheers!

Somerset,

Please leave the cookie jar above-deck. I've deliberately "forgotten" to bring it in so the urchins can enjoy them if they happen to be playing on the Airship Tower. Thanks! *grin*
