Penelope Strathearn Fiddling in the Holidays

The recent snowfall has awakened my sense of nostalgia for my earliest days in New Babbage and Second Life. When I first came to New Babbage, I was about twenty minutes old, with no skills and no prior knowledge of New Babbage (or, for that matter, Second Life) beyond what I'd seen on one of Loki's YouTube videos. I arrived in January, when snow blanketed the ground. At that time, disoriented as I was, although I was entranced by this wintry wonderland, all buildings looked pretty much the same… Continue

Nat Merit Getting my bearings and making friends

On my second night I slept in an alleyway and all but froze to the stone. So my spirits were low and the city streets seemed a scary place for a young runaway to be. I almost turned tail to head back to the life I'd escaped and swore to never see again, but the next day things turned around! I was walking the streets looking for a warm doorway or open outhouse to shelter from the cold when I stumbled across a local urchin, Sam who took me by the hand and showed me the places to go and the trick… Continue

Nat Merit Arriving in New Babbage

Hearing of snowfalls on the radiogram, I was determined to set off to the big city to see the sights and find adventure! I slipped onto a passing train where I hid amongst the freight, and soon I could see signs of snow on the fields. The train passed through bigger and bigger towns, and I barely avoided discovery more than once! It was night as we arrived, but the lights of the city, the sound of machinery and the taste of the smog meant I had no doubt I was in the right place! I waited until t… Continue

Skusting Dagger A Winter Morning and a startling discovery

Breezy and I woke early this morning and went down to the study to sit by the fire and break our fast. Some wonderful hot coa coa and french toast with some bulging sausages did the trick and warmed us for the day. Then the commotion started. The windows of the study were being pelted with snowballs. Bob. Aye, Bob was out and about early and making mischief already. And the lad was not alone. Aye, young master Django Yifu has returned from travels unknown. But it was not the lads versus the grow… Continue

TriloByte Zanzibar The Crunch Of Snow Beneath One's Feet

What a wonderful detail I noticed while on my morning stroll! As if snowy textures, snowbanks, cold breath animations, an ice skating pond, icicles and shoveled walkways wasn't enough of a treat, I noticed that as I walked across the snowbanks, the sound of crunching snow could be heard underfoot! Bravo! Continue
