New Babbage

A Steampunk Community

First, let me say that this is a completely OOC entry. Mainly because I don't want to type in Fin's gutter version of a Scottish accent. So, here's the main bit of it. If New Babbage were the subject of a movie, who would play the characters? We have often discussed this very topic at The Gangplank, but I think we mainly discussed voices. I always picture (or hear) the voices of those that are saying (typing) anything around me. Now, this doesn't mean that I hear anybody specific mind you. Sometimes, it is just what I think their voice and accent would sound like. Sometimes I do hear particular actors though. Like when Tinus speaks, I always hear Antonio Banderas. When Edward Pearse speaks, I always hear Hugh Jackman (yeah yeah I know). But what I want to know is, who would play you in a live action movie? Leave your interesting or creative opinions in the comment section below (ripped that off from Ray William Johnson I did). Oh, nd if you feel so inclined, add a pic of that actor too! You can even photoshop them to look like your AV if you want to. If you do that, I would like to have your permission to use those photos in sort of "coffee table" book that I will make available to all Babbagers.

Hey! There's an idea! Why don't we put it in the welcome kit, that way visitors and new folks will be able to see a name, then recognize them on the streets of Babbage AND have an idea of how they talk, their mannerisms, etc... Maybe that'll help spark the imaginations of everybody!

Dizelle Comment by Dizelle on November 2, 2009 at 1:33pm
The character of Dizelle is actually directly based on a one-shot character from a fantastic Canadian television show from the late 90's. She was played by Toronto actress Tracy Wright.

Here are some screen caps of the original Dizelle:

For me, it would be Robbie Coltrane...well known scottish comedian, even more famous for playing Hagrid in the Harry Potter films...

Myrtil Comment by Myrtil on November 2, 2009 at 1:45pm
I guess the actor who would most look like Myrtil would be the little girl playing Miette, in "La Cité des Enfants Perdus" (City of the Lost Children), french movie from Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet. It's a good movie too, you gotta see it!

Penelope Strathearn Comment by Penelope Strathearn on November 2, 2009 at 1:56pm
((Wow, this is tough. I can't think of any actresses who look or sound like Nell. I hear her with just the faintest bit of an Irish-like lilt, only it's not truly an Irish lilt given she's from an alternate dimension. The closest I can think of would be Maureen O'Hara, the Irish actress from the 1940-1950s, although Nell's hair is more dark chestnut than red, and her lilt is a lot less obvious. It mostly comes to the fore just when she's under stress or some strong emotion.

Similarly, I don't really have an actor in mind for Zachary Somerset, although I imagine him normally having an educated Oxbridge sort of accent which covers up the more Scots-like burr of his childhood, although the accent creeps back in under the same sort of conditions which make Nell's lilt more pronounced. *g*

I imagine both looking more or less like the people you see on your viewer, only more real.))

I think I would like Wall-E to play me...

Softpaw Comment by Softpaw on November 2, 2009 at 2:00pm
For me it would still mostly have to be about the voice, since who ever played me would be either motion capture GCI, or under a TON of makeup. And even then the voice would be altered to sound more musical and ethereal.

So I really have no idea who'd play me and I'd love to hear suggestions!
DreddPirateBob Comment by DreddPirateBob on November 2, 2009 at 2:03pm
Dredd is every madman from the Joker to Howlin Mad Murdoch (the latter more than the former). He would be, with very little doubt, be played brilliantly by this young chap (the smaller one):

Mr. Tenk Comment by Mr. Tenk on November 2, 2009 at 2:04pm
Mr. Tenk is not based on David Krumholtz, despite the fact that the actor played both Bernard the Arch-Elf in The Santa Clause as a child and math professor Charlie Epps in NUMB3RS as an adult.

Coincidence?
Kaylee Frye Comment by Kaylee Frye on November 2, 2009 at 2:24pm
I don't know any actors at all, so when we were talking about this at the Gangplank I let Fin decide who would work for Kaylee. In the end it came out that Alexis Dziena both looked and sounded right for the part. Was pretty bored later that day so I fired up photoshop...

Doctor Obolensky Comment by Doctor Obolensky on November 2, 2009 at 2:31pm
The illegimate and highly improbable love child of Vincent Price and Tim Curry would play Doctor O.
